The company says a full Mac version is in the works. If you have a Mac, you can purchase the MacBridge for the $14.95 RootsMagic 7 add-on, which adds compatibility with Mac OS X (Windows not required). You can order a CD version, but you'll have to pay shipping, which varies depending on where you live. RootsMagic is compatible with Windows 2000 through Windows 8. As for paid services, you're better off with Ancestry ($19.99 at ) (Opens in a new window), our Editors' Choice for genealogy software. If anything, I'd recommend trying out RootsMagic Essentials, which is free and offers many of the same features. However, in that case it would seem silly to pay $29.95 to download RootsMagic, when you can build family trees in FamilySearch and MyHeritage. If you get accounts to the free FamilySearch and $9.95-per-month MyHeritage, you can get help with your research. It's easy to use, but on its own, it's just a family tree creator. Unlike many genealogy programs, RootsMagic ($29.95) is Mac-compatible. RootsMagic 7 is just one of many genealogy programs competing with industry leader Ancestry.
